There are probably at least as many individual stories of heroism, kindness and perseverance to be told after Snow Jam ’14 as there were cars stuck on the road last week. For all of the frustration and eventual blame, the experience revealed that plenty of Metro Atlantans are willing to step up and help each other in a time of need. Aquascape’s Jeremy Brown and Paul Slovisky are among those who went above and beyond to help others last week.
Rather than staying safe and warm with his family after a long and harrowing drive home on Tuesday, Jeremy loaded up his 4 wheel drive truck with supplies and drove around the Acworth area offering help to stranded motorists. He handed out bottled water, oranges, granola bars, and jackets and gave rides to people trying to make their way home by foot. After staying out until midnight on Tuesday, he headed back out Wednesday morning to offer rides to people who had taken shelter overnight in the community — and ended up giving his daughter’s elementary school principal a ride home from Acworth to Douglasville!
Paul, who is both a paid part-time fireman for Bartow County and a volunteer fireman for Holly Springs in his off hours, was the first in our office to recognize that the travel situation was likely to deteriorate rapidly on Tuesday. He called in our crews from job sites before the worst weather and traffic hit, then went out of his own way home to give a ride to one of our Aquascapers who commutes by bike. Later, he helped pull a Cherokee County School bus (which was loaded with kids) out of a ditch.
We’re proud that Jeremy and Paul are part of the Aquascape team!
